Wildebeest Migration
The Wildebeest migration is where over 2 million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle follow the rains. It is a never ending cycle where the animals move through the Serengeti and the Masai Mara in search of green pasture. You can see the Great Migration in the Serengeti all year around. The herds venture into Masai Mara, north Serengeti, if they need to for fresh pastures.
From December to March, the herds gather around Lake Ndutu in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. In the beginning of December, the herds return to the lower northern slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater highlands and around Olduvai Gorge to calve. Some 400,000 calves are born here.
April to May is the rainy season in Tanzania. After bearing their young, the Migration moves towards the central Serengeti for fresher grass.
June is the mating season for the herds. The herds spread throughout the park from the Western Corridor. The herds, in huge numbers, cross the crocodile infested Grumeti River.
From July to October, the wildebeest cross the Mara River which is north of the Serengeti. These river crossings are the most exciting wildlife events one can ever imagine.
In November the herd starts moving back to Ndutu where the land is fertile after the short rains.
The cycle continues as the calving season starts again

Marangu Route is known as the “Coca Cola” route which makes it sound like an easy route to summit. The only reason why it is easier is simply because it is the only route where the accommodation is based in huts as opposed to tents.
