Mount Kilimanjaro
Mount Kilimanjaro is not only the highest Mountain in Africa but is the highest freestanding mountain in the world (5,895 metres/ 19,341 ft). It is in the North of Tanzania bordering Kenya. There are 7 routes that can be trekked to reach the highest point in Africa – Uhuru Peak. Kilimanjaro is located near the town of Moshi and is a protected area. The mountain’s eco systems are breath takingly diverse. On the lowland, much of the land is farmland cultivating coffee, banana, maize and cassava. Inside the park, the lower altitudes are covered with thick forests which then changes to alpine meadows as you climb higher. The landscape changes once you near the peak to find rocks and ice.

Marangu Route is known as the “Coca Cola” route which makes it sound like an easy route to summit. The only reason why it is easier is simply because it is the only route where the accommodation is based in huts as opposed to tents.
